Vote Kevin Tisdel for Kitsap County Commissioner
Generation X · Republican · NKHS 1988 · Chico
I'll do the job for you, not on you.

I am fourth generation Kitsap County born and world traveled. I graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1988. There is no other place on the planet like this fjord.
Nearly 20 years in big-city government taught me a hard lesson: growth does not pay for growth — you do. We will not achieve affordable housing by building apartments everywhere for King County's workforce. To restore affordable housing in Kitsap, we have to repeal the regional formula and the legislation behind it. Competition with outbound commuters is what is driving costs up for Kitsap workers — not a shortage of homes. I will negotiate to repeal that legislation. We have a right to say. The solution is workforce zoning — for the people who already live and work here.
I have spent nearly two decades watching big-city government promise that density would pay for itself. It never does. Kitsap is being asked to absorb King County's overflow, fund the transportation, and eat the school, fire, and utility bill while working farms disappear at three times the regional rate.
District 3 is Navy country and farm country. It is not a bedroom for the east side of the Sound. To restore affordable housing in Kitsap, we have to repeal the regional formula and the legislation behind it. Competition with commuters — people who work in King County and sleep here — is driving up costs for Kitsap workers. We do not have a housing shortage. We have a surplus, and a formula that makes our own workforce bid against Seattle's.
I will pass a resolution requesting GMA amendments, fight that regional housing formula, and measure every land-use decision by whether it returns net-positive revenue and family-wage jobs without sacrificing rural character, fisheries, or the Navy presence that defines this home.
